Age effects on motor threshold

چکیده
Background: rTMS is a clinically effective antidepressant treatment in elderly patients1. The brain's cortical excitability depends on thickness and the distance between coil cortex. Both coil-cortex could be affected due to atrophy occurring with age2. However, previous studies3–8 were inconsistent. Methods: This retrospective study included 129 patients major depressive disorder (MDD) recruited from 2016 2020, age 15 – 50 years (n = 61) or 51 84 68). Resting motor thresholds (RMT) measured weekly for every patient. Results: older cohort of had significantly (p-value: 0,001) higher average RMT 55 % +/- 10,9 maximal stimulation output (1,2 T) compared younger (49 6,9 %). Linear regression as continuous variable showed correlation coefficient 0,36, which again underlines apparent RMT. Conclusions: These findings support existing literature differences age. Moreover, focus patients, our results are believed contribute tolerability based relationship Conflict Interest: None Funding: Disclosures:

متن کاملEffects of whole body vibration on motor unit recruitment and threshold.
Whole body vibration (WBV) has been suggested to elicit reflex muscle contractions but this has never been verified. We recorded from 32 single motor units (MU) in the vastus lateralis of 7 healthy subjects (34 ± 15.4 yr) during five 1-min bouts of WBV (30 Hz, 3 mm peak to peak), and the vibration waveform was also recorded. Recruitment thresholds were recorded from 38 MUs before and after WBV....
متن کاملTask and fatigue effects on low-threshold motor units in human hand muscle.
1. The activity of single motor units was recorded in the first dorsal interosseus muscle of human subjects while they performed an isometric ramp-and-hold maneuver. Motor-unit activity was characterized before and after fatigue by the use of a branched bipolar electrode that was positioned subcutaneously over the test muscle. Activity was characterized in terms of the forces of recruitment and...
متن کاملEffects of fatigue on motor unit firing rate versus recruitment threshold relationships.
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of fatigue on the average firing rate versus recruitment threshold relationships for the vastus lateralis (VL) and vastus medialis. METHODS Nineteen subjects performed ten maximum voluntary contractions of the dominant leg extensors. Before and after this fatiguing protocol, the subjects performed a trapezoid isometric muscle...
متن کاملInfluence of age on motor nerve conduction.
Motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) has been determined in seventy five normal healthy male subjects in different age groups in Right ulnar and median nerves respectively. It is observed that MNCV decreases in the older age group. Further it is seen that MNCV is less in the distal than in the proximal segment, the results being significant in the median nerve.
